Fashion Merchandising and Management
Program Description:
The Fashion Merchandising and Management program is a two-year course for juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in a fashion-related or retail management position, or secondary education in a fashion-related field.
The Fashion Merchandising and Management program provides core skills and knowledge necessary for entry-level employment in a fashion or retail career field. Students learn the fundamentals of business including customer service, buying and selling, marketing, product display, merchandising and achieving a profit. They also learn aspects of fashion design, product development and the design process.
The second year program builds on these skills by establishing a work site internship where students apply their knowledge on-the-job.
Students enrolled in the Fashion Merchandising and Management program will learn the following during a two-year program:
Fashion Merchandising and Management 1:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation at the Cascadia Tech.

Lab Time/Theory Time:
Approximately 40 percent of time will be devoted to theory and professionalism; 60 percent devoted to lab. Students will develop a personal portfolio.
Textbook Reading Level:
Theory material 10.5
Career Opportunities
Year 1: Professional attire needed for internships. Program embroidered uniform blazer (approx. $75) and black slacks or black skirt is required for professional wear. Fashion workbook ordered in class (approximately $28). Optional National Retail Federation Certification exam fee $55. Flash or jump drive is recommended. Additional art or fabric supplies $50. Student must provide their own transportation to/from internship sites during April and May of the school year. Proof of current auto insurance required if student driving to internship site. Family medical insurance or student accident insurance is required.

Fashion Merchandising and Management 1:
- Reading at 10th grade level
- Passed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
- Excellent high school attendance record
- Must provide own health insurance to participate in internships
- Must provide own transportation to internship sites and provide current car insurance
- Must pass 1st year program with a B grade or better to qualify for 2nd year; space is limited
