Construction Technology
Program Description:
This program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in the construction industry. A combination of theory and hands-on experiences are applied with the construction of several projects. During the 1st year, students receive instruction in safety, hand and power tool usage, construction mathematics, building codes and building plans. Projects include building a carpenter’s toolbox, designing a set of building plans, building a shed and scale model house, and working off campus on a house project. During the 2nd year, students receive advanced instruction in safety, pneumatic tool usage, construction mathematics, and interpretation of engineered building plans. The second year program provides the opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills through the construction of a residential home including site preparation, foundation construction, floor and wall construction, roof construction, siding, trim, windows and door installation. In addition, students are given the opportunity to work with the sub-contractor, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and roofing.
Students enrolled in the Construction Technology program, during a two-year program, will learn:

Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the Cascadia Tech.
Lab Time/Theory Time:
Approximately 20 percent theory and 80 percent lab
Homework:
One or two hours each week

Year 1 and 2: Tools and tool bags (Specific information given out in September), safety glasses, work clothes and work boots required, and rain gear recommended. Lab fee is paid at the end of the school year and is based on the amount of materials the student uses. Family medical insurance or student accident insurance is required.
Note: Student accident insurance is available for purchase through the sending school.

Prerequisites:
Construction Technology I
- Reading proficiency at 9th grade level
- Must have successfully completed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
- Excellent high school attendance record
- Must pass 1st year program and be recommended by instructor to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available
