Located in Brush Prairie, WA, C.A.S.E.E. offers high school students many unique opportunities to learn about and explore the natural world we live in using hands-on scientific exploration on a diverse and beautiful 80-acre campus which includes: Science and computer laboratories, greenhouses, organic gardens, aquaculture and wildlife ponds, year-round creek, nature trails, forestry demonstration sites, fruit orchards, wildlife botanical gardens, beekeeping, wood workshop, game bird aviary, and a wide variety of landscapes. The program strongly emphasizes developing communication and leadership skills, bringing professionals into the classroom to work with students, and promoting problem solving both independently and in groups.
The CASEE Center is a two year program. One year focuses on the application of biological, chemical, and physical principals to the study of converting raw agricultural products into processed forms suitable for direct human consumption. In addition this course prepares individual to conserve and manage wilderness and wildlife reservations and zoological facilities for recreation, commercial, and ecological purposes.
The other year of this two year program prepares students to manage and develop forest areas for economic, recreation, and ecological purposes. This course will also focus on the application of agricultural management and scientific principals to the problems of global food production and distribution and the study of agricultural systems of other countries.
Time: 2.5 hours daily, full year.
Credit: Three credits for a full year.

FIRE SCIENCE (FIREFIGHTER CADET)
This two-year program is open to juniors and seniors. First year Fire Cadets are introduced to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to be a member of the emergency services fields of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Students in the first year receive training in Hazardous Materials awareness. Second year Cadets serve in leadership roles for the program and continue to develop and build on skills learned during year one. They also have the opportunity to go on “ride-a-longs” with their local fire department, learn wildland fire fighting skills as well as Hazardous Materials operations.
Pathway:
Time: 2 hours daily, full year. An additional 90 hour internship per semester for an addition .5 credit each semester
Credit: three credits per year are available
Students in the Fire Science Program Year One will learn:
- Washington State Occupational First Aid/CPR
- Basic Fire Fighting Schools
- Team work and Cooperation skills
- Apply concepts and mathematical procedures
- Hydraulics
- Application of science and physics to the fire ground
- HazMat awareness
- Physical training
Students in the Fire Science Program Year Two will learn:
- Wildland Fire Fighting skills
- Advanced Fire Fighting skills and application
- HazMat Operations
- Ride-Along Fire Fighting experience
- Physical training

PREREQUISITES:
Fire Science I
- Reading proficiency at 10th grade level
- Excellent high school attendance record
- Must provide own transportation to training site
Fire Science II
- Must pass 1st year program with a B grade or better to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available
- Must provide own transportation to training site
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Good physical condition
- Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1, Chemistry, Physics, Health and PE classes are recommended
Note:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the off-campus Fire Science classroom site. OTHER REQUIREMENTS MAY BE REQUIRED.
