
Travel and Hotel Management
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Students enrolled in this program will learn skills to be successful in the travel and hospitality industry, including marketing and customer relations. Specific job opportunities will be explored: hotel front desk, guest services, reservations, and management and personnel opportunities. Guest speakers and field trips to travel agencies and hotels will be part of the first semester learning. Second semester will include an internship possibly leading to employment in the Portland/Vancouver area hospitality related businesses. Opportunities for employment throughout the United States and abroad are possible through this chosen career.

STUDENTS OF THE TRAVEL AND HOTEL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM WILL LEARN:

- Successful completion of the program, with a grade of “B” or higher, may result in college credit
- Certified Rooms Division Specialist (CRDS) from the American Hotel Lodging Association
- Travel and Career Development certificate by ICTA (Institute of Certified Travel agents)
- Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) upon passing test of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)
PREREQUISITES:
Travel and Hotel Management I
- Reading proficiency at 10th grade level
- Excellent high school attendance record
- Must provide their own transportation to internship sites
Travel and Hotel Management II
- Must pass 1st year program with a B grade or better to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available
- Must have own transportation to training site
Note:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the Skills Center.
ORGANIZATIONS:
Lodging curriculum is endorsed by American Hotel & Lodging Association and supported by Clark County Lodging Association. Travel Curriculum is endorsed by American Society of Travel Agents. Students can participate in state and national competitions through WA state Hotel & Lodging Association and Skills USA.
