
Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management program is a two-year course for juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in a fashion-related or retail management position.
The Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management program provides core skills and knowledge necessary for entry-level employment in a fashion or retail career field. Students learn the fundamentals of business including customer service, buying and selling, marketing, product display, merchandising and achieving a profit. They also learn aspects of project and human resources management in order to obtain a holistic understanding of the retail industry.
The second year program builds on these skills by establishing a work site internship where students apply their knowledge on-the-job.

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION:

PREREQUISITES:
- Reading at 10th grade level
- Passed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
- Excellent high school attendance record
- Must provide own transportation to internship sites and provide current car insurance
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Speech or communication classes recommended
- Able to pass background check may be necessary depending on internship placement
Note:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the Skills Center.
