PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The first year focus consists of basic ac and dc electronics, soldering, test equipment, DigiPen Robotics and Mr. Circuit labs. Cisco IT Academy and associated hands on labs develop computer hardware and software skills. Students are introduced to networking fundamentals. Microsoft Office applications are taught as part of the Microsoft IT Academy program. Industry related projects using Word, Excel and PowerPoint in the classroom demonstrate technical application of Microsoft Office. Introductory programming using C++ to program the DigiPen robots introduces students to robotics software.

The second year consists of programming in C++ using DigiPen Fun Editor to create video games, networking fundamentals preparing for Network + certification, and providing help desk support for the Skills Center.  Students continue to develop their skills using Microsoft Office Applications as part of the Microsoft IT Academy program and develop industry related projects. 

Professionalism is an important aspect of Electro-Digital Technologies’ curriculum focusing on teamwork, communication and career research. Students will explore web design, photo editing with Adobe Studio 8, and Photoshop during both years.

The expected program outcomes for EDT include but are not limited to:

  • Training all students in the basics of computer operation, service and support
  • Introducing students to computer networking
  • Safety issues as they relate to EDT
  • Understanding basic ac and dc electronics (Year 1)
  • Ability to build and program a DigiPen robot (Year 1)
  • Preparing students to make the transition to employment in entry level positions or continuing education in the technology field (Year 2)
  • Introducing all students to programming and video game design (Year 2)

PREREQUISITES:

Electro-Digital Technologies I

  • Reading proficiency at 10th grade level
  • Must have successfully completed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
  • Excellent high school attendance record

Electro-Digital Technology II

  • Must pass 1st year program with a B grade or better to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available
  • Must provide own transportation to internship site

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Basic knowledge of keyboarding and Microsoft applications recommended

Note:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the Skills Center.
