PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This course offers students the opportunity to earn hours towards the 1,600 hours required by Washington State for a beauty operator’s license.  Students attending during session 1 may earn up to 450 hours and session 2 students may earn up to 630 hours.  The course consists of both lecture and lab periods in all phases of theory and science of cosmetology.  The course curriculum includes the following:

• Career development
• Professionalism
• Salon studies
• Safety, hygiene and bacteriology
• Sterilization and sanitation
• Decontamination and infection control
• Shampooing (soap and dry)
• Scalp massage
• Hair reconstruction
• Hair coloring and bleaching – practical and theory
• Iron curling and waving
• Hair fashioning, shaping, and cutting
• Theory and science of cosmetology
• Care of face and massaging  -  eyebrow arching and waxing
• Cold permanent waving – practical and theory
• Finger waving
• Manicuring, Pedicuring, parts of the nail, diseases and disorders theory
• Massage of the hand and feet
• Laws of beauty culture

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION:

• WA State Cosmetology License

PREQUISITES:

• Students must have senior standing (completion of junior credits)
• Must have successfully completed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
• Reading proficiency at 9th grade level
• Must provide own transportation to training sites
• Excellent high school attendance record              
  

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Health, biology, and speech are all classes recommended to have taken prior to this class
• Good physical coordination: no leg or back difficulties, good finger dexterity, and good eye-hand coordination

Note:

• Valid Social Security number is required for state licensing exam.
• Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the CCSC Beauty School.
