PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Construction Technology class is a two-year program.  This program is jointly operated by the Skills Center and Clark College.  Students completing this two-year program will be given credit towards a degree at Clark College.  An additional year's work at Clark College will lead to an Associate of Applied Science Degree.  Second year the students of this program will construct a house.

STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM, DURING A TWO-YEAR PROGRAM, WILL LEARN:

  • Shop and job site safety
  • Construction mathematics and measuring
  • Tool safety and usage
  • Building plans design
  • Building Codes
  • Building materials
  • Cost estimation
  • Build a shed
  • Build a scale model house
  • Build a large structure such as a house, shop, barn, etc. (2nd year)
  • Professionalism skills

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

    • Entry level job skills
    • Preparation for next level of education/training
    • Opportunity for scholarships
    • Successful completion of first and second year with a grade of “B” or better, makes student eligible for up to 72 Clark College credits toward an associate’s degree.
    • Possible job placement upon graduation
    • Considered a pre-apprenticeship program for several union and non-union apprenticeship programs.

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION:

  • National certification: National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)

PREREQUISITES:

Construction Technology I

    • Reading proficiency at 9th grade level
    • Must have successfully completed Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1
    • Excellent high school attendance record

Construction Technology II

    • Must pass 1st year program with a B grade or better to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available

Note:
Upon acceptance into the program, student and parent/guardian must participate in the Orientation/Interview at the Skills Center.
