
Applied Medical Sciences
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Applied Medical Sciences program explores a variety of health occupations giving students knowledge and core skills necessary for entry level work into health careers.
During the first year, the students will be introduced to current health care settings. They will meet a number of health care professionals. Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology will be covered. Students will become familiar with basic safety and life saving procedures. The students will master core skills necessary for certification as a nursing assistant (NAC).

SECOND YEAR:
Students who are 18 by mid-March may take a course in emergency medical science (EMT basic), and they may earn 6 credits in Medical Terminology from Clark College. There is also an in-depth study of the various areas of health care. In addition, all students will study environmental safety, growth and development, wellness, nutrition, pharmacotherapy, patient advocacy, therapeutic communication, and health care trends.

The student must be 18 years old when this program starts (usually in March) Spring Quarter and must have a B average in AMS II. Selection is determined by the instructor based on the past performance and limited number of available spaces. - Therapeutic communiction with emphasis on serving the global community

- Science class ("C" or better)
